Pakistan Offers Free CNIC for Citizens Aged 18 and Above

October 29, 2025

The Government of Pakistan has launched a new initiative allowing all citizens aged 18 and above to receive their first Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) completely free of cost.

This move by the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) aims to simplify the identity registration process and make it more accessible—particularly for young adults and people living in remote or underdeveloped areas.

According to NADRA, any eligible citizen without a CNIC can visit the nearest NADRA Registration Centre, complete a quick application, and receive their identity card within 15 days, without paying a single rupee.

Why This Matters

A CNIC is much more than just an identification card—it’s a gateway to essential services and rights in Pakistan. From voting in elections to opening bank accounts, applying for passports, getting SIM cards, and accessing government welfare programs like Ehsaas, a CNIC is vital for every citizen.

By offering the first card free, the government is removing both financial barriers and bureaucratic delays, ensuring that every adult Pakistani can be officially recognized and empowered.

Updated CNIC and Smart NIC Renewal Fees

NADRA has also revised its fee structure for renewals, giving citizens the flexibility to choose processing speeds that fit their needs:

CNIC Renewal

  • Normal: Rs. 400 (15 days)
  • Urgent: Rs. 1,150 (12 days)
  • Executive: Rs. 2,150 (6 days)

Smart NIC Renewal

  • Normal: Rs. 750 (31 days)
  • Urgent: Rs. 1,500 (15 days)
  • Executive: Rs. 2,500 (9 days)

Empowering Every Citizen

NADRA’s identity cards carry personal, biometric, and unique identification data, ensuring legal recognition and secure access to government services. This initiative reflects the government’s broader commitment to digital inclusion and citizen empowerment, giving every 18-year-old Pakistani a verified identity — and a stronger voice in society.
